"Sawtooth Star" Quilt with Appraisal - Hand Pieced and Hand Quilted - Black Stars on White Background with Tiny Red Dots - Made of Cotton. Quilt top was made around 1900, according to the appraisal. Interesting story: Appraisal states this provenance: B__ V__ finished the quilt top by backing and quilting it in 2003. Owner was told that the top was found in a trunk of quilt tops in a Wisconsin estate sale. She was told that families traveling through the area often'paid' for food and lodging by giving a quilt top. Size: 80 x 80 inches. Condition: No tears or worn areas, no odors; small light stained area (see last photo); appraisal says there is one 1/2 inch restoration in the white/red area which doesn't affect value - the repair can be seen in the lower left corner of the 5th photo; black binding was fraying in several places, so I sewed new binding over the old, by machine on the back and by hand on the front - see the second to last photo; quilt is also freshly laundered on delicate cycle, with Woolite; it looks great!
